Ukraine can halt free trade with Russia Jan 2, ban imports Jan 10
KIEV, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has offered the government to suspend the free trade with Russia from January 2 and introduce an embargo on imports of some Russian goods from January 10, according to a statement seen by PRIME late Tuesday.
Russia will impose import duties on Ukrainian goods from January 1, as Kiev will launch a free-trade zone with the E.U. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said earlier that Russia will also prohibit imports from Ukraine of all kinds of goods which were earlier barred by sanctions against the E.U., in fact, this will mean an almost complete food import ban.
If the ministry’s proposal is accepted, Ukraine will prohibit imports of Russian vodka, confectionery, meat, chocolate, baby food, fish, melted cheese, beer, cigarettes with filter, cat and dog feed, and some other categories of products, and also railway and tramway equipment and diesel-electric locomotives.
